It is finally here our very own training field !!!

It's been a lot of hard work and planning to finally, yes, you heard right my friends, our training field is up and operational. The blinds are up and also is our jump and wall all ready for us to train.

We'll have lots of fun training in our new field with a few friends coming over to help us with the group in obedience and help in other aspects of training too.

We'll see about uploading some photos and videos of our training.

Hi All,

As most of you all know we have a new working prospect. His name is Fritz. He has all the necessary genes for a working dog. Training has begun, tracking in the tracking box for meals, tugging on several items and ball retrieval. We are planning to update his training much like the rest of the boxer pack's blog is updated with their training and trial experiences.

Working Summer 2011

It's been a hot summer and still is. We get up early to track and practice obedience before the heat of the day. It can hit 103 degrees F with heat index before noon.

At dawn we lay our tracks, then track the boxer pack, rest a bit and practice obedience, one day retrieves on flat, over jump and wall; one day heeling with attention; one day group and send outs. Then we all jump into the water cascade to cool off !!! We are doing good, we should be ready for when trial season starts, Yeah Baby !!!

Summer Training

Summer is here as far as we are concern. Is hot, hotter and hottest.

We train as early as we can and then chill out for the rest of the day and play a bit after the Sun sets. Working on tracking, Obedience and Protection and making good progress. We are also training Agility and Carting.

Boomer is preparing for his BH, CD and CGC. That boy is so ambitious and driven.

Sammy is working on her Novice Agility, CD, and Schutzhund titles. She's coming along just nicely, she's not going to let the boys have all the fun, she wants some for herself.

Thor is working on his Schutzhund, CDX and Novice Agility titles.

Working towards our Schutzhund Titles

We are busy working towards our titles. Tracking early, and mid morning, in different terrains, grass, dirt, dirt with rock, etc. In obedience, training the routine in different environments, not the entire routine at once and taking the routine and breaking it up in smaller parts to make ourselves better. In protection, working closely with our decoy and working to get as close to working as a team as we can.

There's drama, fun, learning in our training, we work a little and play a lot. We rest and play and have day offs to rest the body and mind. We bond and become a team that trusts one another, so when is show time, we can do our best to earn our titles and have fun while doing it.

Miludee Boxers at an Agility Seminar

Miludee Boxers attended an agility seminar in December at a friend of ours. New techniques were learned and old ones polished a little bit.

We made new friends and our boxers got a chance to show off a bit their agility ability. We had a great time.

Miludee Boxers Earn New Title

Thor has done it again. This past week he earned his AKC CD (Companion Dog Title) and placed 2nd in 3 consecutive days of trialing. This is a first for us in AKC and we are very proud of Thor. He earned his new title while waiting for his upcoming schutzhund trials.

It's been a busy year for us here at Miludee Boxers, our boxers learned and are practicing carting on a regular basis, while we continue to train for our schutzhund trials.

Thor became a Certified Service Dog, learned carting and earned a CD. We are very proud of the big guy.

Training for upcoming trials

The weather is cooler and less humid, it must be training for trials season.

We continue on our journey to accomplish our goals, to title our boxers. Though we have had some setbacks with handler injuries the training continues and the dogs are preparing for trials.

Finally autumn is here and we can go back to training all three phases of schutzhund.

We've been busy this summer, training in tracking, and obedience early in the morning. Working on our targeting for protection. Thor earned his service dog badge. Boomer, Sammy and Thor have been learning carting, they are coming along very nicely. The club is considering a carting test, we are planning on attenting and participating, we should be ready, will keep you posted.

Schutzhund trials are coming up and we will be trialing, Boomer, Sammy & Thor so keep an eye on our site, and get the latest news of our trials.

Miludee Boxers' first Certified Service Dog

Thor has successfully completed the Service Dog Training with the Public Access Test administered by Jacki Purdham from K-9 Friends LLC.

The purpose of this Public Access Test is to ensure that dogs who have public access are stable, well-behaved, and unobtrusive to the public. It is to ensure that the client has control over the dog and the team is not a public hazard.

Any dog that displays any aggressive behavior (growling, biting, raising hackles, showing teeth, etc.) will be eliminated from the test. Any dog that eliminates in a building or shows uncontrollable behavior will be eliminated from the test.

The evaluator will explain the test thoroughly before the actual testing, during which he/she will follow discreetly to observe when not directly interacting with the individual on a test related matter.

Sammy is on the sleeve, working hard, Boomer is working on his moving exercises in obedience and Thor is taking the turns left and right and finding and indicating his articles in tracking. Tygger is happy to supervise and chase her frisbee or do a small track.

We continue to train and prepare for our Schutzhund trial. A small detour for an injury on my part, my bad. A sprained ankle and knee goes a long way to keep you out of training. But we practice attention, retrieving the dumbell on flat, over jump and wall, and that very fast send out of our boxers. Tracking is limited, for the moment to articles, but soon we'll get back out there and continue on our way.

Training for upcoming trials

The boxer pack is preparing for working trial season coming up in our area. Is very busy around here, boxers tracking, indicating articles and different tracking patterns being performed.

Performing various obedience patterns, retrieving a dumbbell over flat, jumping high jumps, going over high walls to retrieve dumbbells, and doing a send out to the end of the field. Preparing for the bark and hold, the escape and drive, the courage test and the back transfer to the judge. So much to do, busy, busy, busy . . . busy.

Boomer is preparing for his BH and CGC trials.

Boxers in Training

Boomer is coming along in his obedience exercises. Boomer and his handler Luis are getting ready for Boomer's BH trial. His moving exercises are both equally fast and correct. Boomer's down under distraction is getting more and more solid as he practices it more. At this time, Boomer is also learning the retrieves on flat and over the jump and wall. Boomer has resently learned the send out and is pretty fast on both the send out and the down command at the end of the sendout.

Sammy is coming along very nicely, her attention is just very good in the heeling part of obedience. The motion exercises are solid both the sit out of motion and the down out of motion. The retrieves are solid both on flat and over the jump and the wall. Sammy is working on the send out and that is coming out nicely too. The down under distraction is still a bit tricky for her but she is working on it and is getting better.

Thor continues to prepare for his upcoming performance trial. Performing the exercises and working on attention which is coming along very well. The motion exercises are correct and precise. The retrieves on flat and over the jump and wall are also correct and precise. The send out is very fast and the down is very fast and good. Attention is still a bit tricky, boxers like to know what is going on around them, but he is working on it and is getting better at it.

Soon all 3 Miludee Boxers will be competing and will be cheered on by one of their coaches Tygger, who has been participating in their training since they all arrived at Miludee Boxers. Tygger is now retired but continues to exercise and teach the pups how to prepare for the competitions to come.

Miludee Boxers preparing for Performance Trials

Here at Miludee Boxers, our boxers, Boomer, Sammy & Thor are preparing for their performance trials. Tygger is busy helping Boomer, Sammy and Thor with their endurance and tracking exercises.

The tracking is progressing very nicely, all the exercises are coming together in obedience, and in protection the final exercises are coming together very well. Soon our boxers will be out there competing in a field near you !

Sammy and Thor are preparing for their Schutzhund 1 trials later this year and Boomer is preparing for his BH and Schutzhund 1 trial.

Protection Seminar with Carl

On January 10-11, 2009, Thor, Sammy and Boomer went to a Schutzhund protection seminar with Carl. We had a great time and learned a little bit more about protection training for boxers and their handlers. Our two handlers learned how to better handle their dogs in protection and learn a bit more the eye, foot and dog coordination for practically very green handlers.

Boomer and his owner/handler Luis, pictured above, will shortly be ready for their BH. Luis and Boomer are a team to watch, their performance in the heeling portion of Obedience is like a well choreographed dance. They are both working very closely on their tracking, obedience and protection phases for their Schutzhund I trial. They are a team to watch in the near future.

Sammy, pictured on left, is working on her tracking, both on dirt and grass, obedience and protection training in different training fields. So as soon as there is little more knowledge of what is expected of her, in the sport of Schutzhund, Sammy should be able to attempt her Schutzhund titles in the near future.

Thor will probably trial first, since he is the most advanced of the two. Sammy is a shared training boxer between Luis and Millie and they will decide who will be the handler that will trial with Sammy for her Schutzhund titles.

We met new and old friends at this seminar and learned a bit more about our new hobby, training boxers in the sport of Schutzhund.

What working dogs should know

Those who would like to train their dogs for specialized purposes, like police dog, search and rescue, need to know that all specialized training requires a foundation.
Trainers involved in training of service dogs, came up with tests to determine the potential of the dog for the more demanding, specialized service work.

The dog sport of Schutzhund has its origins as a resource from which to draw from for future service dogs for tracking and general police work.

The dog’s scenting ability makes the dog valuable for service. The dog also has the ability to go places where humans cannot and can strike quickly against any danger present to him or his handler. The most important asset a dog has is his close relationship with his handler.

A good working dog must focus on his task, have drive and direct his energy to the task at hand and most of all be a team player. The following skills are those that a dog can learn and which can then be easily transferred to achieve specialized service work.

1. Concentration on the track
2. Indicate article found
3. Obedience
4. Directed retrieve
5. Negotiate different surfaces and obstacles
6. Retrieve over a jump
7. Climb a wall
8. Follow directional signals while searching
9. Hold and bark
10. Engage a stranger

Schutzhund training report for October

All is going well in the training of the Schutzhund hopefuls, Boomer, Sammy & Thor.

Boomer is learning his jumps, and putting together the heeling routine for the BH. There are 2 club trials coming up, he should be ready for one of them.

Sammy is putting the finishing touches on the BH preparing for the trial coming up in November at our local club. She is also training for the Schutzhund 1 Title. Lengthening the track with 2 articles and 2 turns. In obedience, learning retrieve on flat and over the jump and the wall, not to be forgotten the send out, and continued practice of the heeling pattern. In protection, she's practicing the blind search with hold and bark, and the escape at this time.

Thor is working on lengthening the track with 2 articles and 2 turns. The track is being made a bit more difficult these days due to our stronger October winds. In obedience, he is practicing the heeling pattern, the retrieves on flat and over the jump and wall, at the regulation height, and the send out is being practiced with a down now and then. In protection, he's got the blind search and the hold and bark with the escape down pat. Working on the courage test and the transport back to the judge. All seems to be coming together soon we'll find out if we are both ready.

A Dog for all Fields

The Boxer is a very versatile dog. He can perform in Schutzhund, Agility, Obedience, Tracking, Free Style, Personal Protection, Search and Rescue, you name it he can do it. He is descended from hunters, who later as it was needed it started doing other jobs, like guard dog for the home, circus dog, police dog, courier dog, rescue dog, in other words the boxer keeps reinventing himself and being successful at it.

A well bred Boxer in my opinion, is an excellent dog for families, he will love and protect you and your loved ones that is the essence of the boxer. He is neither aggressive nor a wimp. A well bred boxer is all the things mentioned above and more. In my opinion once you have had a boxer there is no other dog out there that can match his love of you, your family, your company, your well being.

The Boxer must be trained with respect, and affection. You must be the leader and win his respect by being fair to him not cruel or mean. He is sensitive to his handler/owner and will not tolerate abuse. Some might be fast learners, others take a little longer to learn their lessons, however, once the lesson is learned he will not forget.

The Boxer will be your companion, your friend, your buddy all he asks is that you treat him as you would like to be treated yourself, with love, kindness and respect.

Introducing THOR

I am Thor a German working boxer. I'm working on my Schutzhund titles at this time. I already have accomplished a CGC and a BH title.

The performance title I am at the present time training for is my Schutzhund I title. The Schutzhund I title is a lot of work to train. It encompases, tracking with a minimum of 300 paces, with 2 articles and 2 turns, an obedience pattern followed by a retrieve on flat, over a jump and over a wall. Then a send out with a down followed by a long down with distractions. Protection comes last and you must do search for the decoy, hold and bark, prevent an escape, defense during guarding, and an attack on the dog out of motion, then heel with the decoy to the judge.

The judge critiques your performances as you complete them and at the end of each critique he gives you your score.

Hi I'm BOOMER, the youngest working schutzhund boxer of the pack. I am working towards my BH, hope to trial in our local trial in November 2008. And will be working for my schutzhund titles next year.

I need a little work on my down with distraction, but I'm getting better. My handler/owner/trainer is a very nice guy that plays a lot with me and trains me a bit less than mom would like him to, but is ok, we'll get there.

Besides no one is going to rush me to learn anything, is my way or the highway. I'm a nice guy, but I will not be rushed.

I'm Tygger the only American Boxer in this pack. I help exercise and train the new boxers in our pack. My training is in agility, obedience, and tracking.

I am a pretty fast runner and is hard for the new boxers to catch up to me, however they get pretty close.

I like to play with my frisbee, run with my other boxer friends, and get my belly scratched.
